Rifampin 20mg/ml Syrup

Rifampin 20 mg/ ml, 6 ml syrup is a complex macrocyclic antibiotic that inhibits ribonucleic acid synthesis in microbial pathogens and it is a semisynthetic derivative of rifamycin.

It has bacterial action and a potent sterilizing effect against tubercle bacilli in both cellular and extracellular locations.

• The medicine treats asymptomatic meningococcal carriers. It should be used indiscriminately only after the confirmed results from the diagnostic laboratories like serotyping and susceptibility testing.
• It treats all forms of tuberculosis.
• It treats the asymptomatic carriers of Neisseria meningitidis to eliminate meningococci from the nasopharynx.
• Rifampin should be only used to prevent or treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
• An enzyme in Rifampin enhances the metabolism of endogenous substrates including adrenal hormones like thyroid hormones and vitamin D.

• Rifampin is administered only once daily, and it should be taken one hour before or two hours after a meal with a full glass of water.
